Job Description

The Sr. Accountant position provides technical expertise in accounting, corporate support systems and operational functions to branches, and Association management. The incumbent is responsible for processing and maintaining high-quality Association accounting records, including the management of centralized accounts payable and general ledger processes, and assistance in the Association financial statements, financial reporting and budgeting.

Duties:

Accounts Payable:Directs the daily accounts payable process which includes assigning proper general ledger code allocations for each Association entity, preparing and scheduling payment of vendor invoices, and overseeing preparation of checks for distribution. Monitors, reviews, and establishes the payment and approval method for employee and director expense reports. Ensures the proper accounts payable interface with the general ledger is correct and accurate to protect the integrity of the overall Association financial statements. Completes the required IRS 1099 documentation, as well as sales tax and property tax filing documentation. Provides work direction for 2 support staff.

General Ledger:Reviews and oversees the daily entry activity relating to the Association’s multi-entity general ledger. This includes monthly reconciliation of accounts, related filing and maintenance of documentation, and reconciliation of payroll to the general ledger system.

Financial Statements:Reviews and assists with the preparation of the Association financial statements with proper accrual entries to ensure accuracy and compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and Farm Credit Administration regulations.

Miscellaneous Projects:Monitors and supervises the maintenance activities for the Corporate office which includes acquiring vendors such as lawn care, janitorial, snow removal, etc.

This is a full-time benefited position headquartered in our Corporate office in Willmar, Minnesota, is a member of the Corporate Team and reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business and five years or more of progressive accounting experience. Experience in a banking or lending environment is preferred. Must be able to process and reconcile complex transactions with accuracy and have the ability to work with multiple entity accounting. The incumbent should have a high level of skill with Microsoft Excel and good knowledge of Microsoft office applications and Great Plains Software. Incumbent must possess good written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, strong analytical skills, and organizational skills. Must be committed to and supportive of a team work environment that strives to achieve excellent customer service.
