The Crop Insurance Technician provides first-level customer service. The primary responsibilities are to assist the Crop Insurance Specialist to market, cross-sell and deliver crop insurance and customers and prospects.  This includes gathering information and then working with the Crop Insurance Specialist, Financial Services Officers and Customer Service Representatives to initiate and service crop insurance programs.  This position provides administrative and sales support to the Crop Insurance Specialist.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS:  Establishes, develops, and maintains strong customer relationships by consistently providing quality service that is timely, thorough, and responsive and exceeds customer’s expectations.  Provides support to Crop Insurance Specialist and Customer Service Representatives that builds quality customer relationships.

 

  1. DELIVER AND SERVICE CROP INSURANCE PRODUCT:   Renews crop insurance policies and assists in establishing new crop insurance policies for walk-in and telephone customers.  This includes determining the customer’s needs, completing worksheets, and transmitting information.   Assists the Crop Insurance Specialist in delivering and servicing related policies and products.
     
  2. CLAIMS REPORTING & COORDINATION:  Assists Crop Insurance Specialist in receiving claims reports and insurance adjusting activities. Communicates claims to the Insurance carrier and follows up with carrier as needed to insure expected customer service.  Also communicates with customers, adjusters and insurance company to facilitate the claim process.  

 

  1. CROSS-SELLING:  Develops a customer relationship by proactively cross-selling products and services our customers or prospective customers.

 

  1. TEAM COORDINATION:  Coordinates with Financial Services Officers and VP-Financial Services to develop and complete marketing and servicing plans.  Coordinates with Crop Insurance Specialist on individual policies.  Coordinates with Central Office departments to answer questions, resolve operation problems and share necessary information.

 

  1. ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT:  Provides administrative support for Crop Insurance Specialist and others as needed.
     
  2. Represents and communicates the mission and values of Farm Credit Mid-America and complies with its conduct policy, security policy and confidentiality expectations.

 


 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

This is an entry level position for a Crop Insurance Technician.  The primary responsibility is to become a fully functional Crop Insurance Assistant through training and on the job experience.  High School diploma and 1 year experience in two or more of the following areas: administrative support, financially related customer service or computer operations.

Knowledge of:  crop insurance products, services, fees and their application to customers’ needs; selling techniques;  market segments; basic agricultural; economic conditions; competition’s products, interest rates, and fees; technology;   accounting systems;  crop insurance origination systems and processes; and   policies and procedures. 

 

Skills in:  Matching products and services to customer needs; translating features into benefits; selling; interpersonal relations; listening; using accounting and crop insurance origination systems; computers; verbal and written communications; organizing; and problem solving.
