Job Description

Title: Credit Officer
Office Location: Freeport, IL

Position Overview: The individual analyzes and supports loan applications for new or renewed loans and loan servicing. Incumbent approves/denies loans within delegated authority, and completes the analysis and loan structuring efforts for larger, more complex loans. The incumbent will also have some client interaction through financial counseling by teaming up with sales team members.

Successful candidate:

  • Provides accurate financial analysis for complex client relationships by utilizing various software applications and other related systems; qualifies and validates financial information utilized in the credit decision making process; completes accrual earnings reconciliation as needed; remains updated on the industries serviced by the assigned office and/or business unit; completes industry specific research to validate key cash flow projections;
  • Provides prompt turn around on credit and servicing requests; communicates the status of loans in process with internal credit, sales, and operations to insure coordination between external client and Compeer Financial; works closely with sales team to complete financial counseling with key clients; coordinates with sales and Risk Credit teams to develop servicing plans for higher risk client relationships;
  • Monitors the loan performance for the organization; works directly with sales team or with clients to develop a plan to cure loan delinquencies; monitors database exception reports to ensure proper financial, collateral, and loan classifications are accurate; monitors utilization of OTS and provides ongoing counseling of its use;
  • Has delegated lending authority; personally involved in the analysis and processing of complex credit packages;
  • Serves as a mentor for less experienced team members; and
  • Serves as a key resource for both internal and external audit teams.

Successful candidate will have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in agriculture economics, finance, accounting, business administration, or related field;
  • Minimum of two years credit related work experience;
  • Knowledge of core agricultural crop and livestock industries and production practices; in-depth understanding of finance and macroeconomics;
  • Working knowledge of various risk mitigation tools including FSA, RFA, SBA, USDA, and Farmer MAC;
  • Solid knowledge of credit processing and servicing activities, accounting principles and practices, credit analysis procedures, and credit administration;
  • Proven interpersonal, communication, team building, problem solving, analytical, organizational, and time management skills;
  • Sound decision making, negotiating, and influencing skills;
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision;
  • Solid computer skills including MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and client databases such as NetScore, CRM, and the loan origination system.
