As a Financial Services Leader, you exhibit strong leadership, customer relationship, and technical skills in the areas of farm accounting and farm income taxation. Exceeding branch revenue goals and generating new business are keys for the success of the Financial Services Leader and the Claverack branch team. The Financial Services Leader is dedicated to finding creative solutions to meet customer needs and consistently generates superior results in terms of both quantity and quality of services provided to customers. A thorough understanding of Farm Credit East's products and services is required in order to provide the best solution to each customer's unique needs. 

We are seeking an individual with the ability to lead, motivate and develop the other members of the team and accept responsibility for the growth and quality of the branch tax program. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to professional development and is expected to take on a leadership role in branch and Farm Credit East projects and initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience in taxation, accounting, and leading teams. Experience with CCH Tax programs is a plus.

Area: The branch is located in a suburban area, with rural communities and urban amenities conveniently located nearby. 

Types of Agriculture: The branch's agriculture is diverse, including dairy, fruit, livestock, and cash crops.  Farm related businesses are also within Claverack's target market.

Claverack Branch Annual Core Services (Tax, Records, Payroll, Appraisal, Consulting) Revenue: $2,100,000

Responsibilities/Duties

The employee is accountable for the following: 

  • Direct Provision of Financial Services: Provide high value financial services to customers for a profitable fee. Accurately prepare tax returns, state and federal payroll filings, and other returns. Maintain current federal and state tax knowledge and have a thorough understanding of all tax and records software programs. Maintain proper documentation and communication with members and staff in order to respond to internal and external customer needs.
  • Marketing: Increase business by means of promotional activities and superior customer service. Provide value to customers with appropriate and timely products and services.
  • Member Relations/Teamwork: Provide outstanding customer service (both internal and external) and deliver exceptional customer experience and value by setting, communicating and meeting customer expectations. Demonstrate a strong community commitment and professional presence that contributes to the overall positive image of the ACA. Act in a forthright and ethical manner, display a positive attitude and contribute positively to the overall morale of the team and association. Assist other team members and contribute to training.

Required Skills

The successful candidate will possess critical technical, customer relationship, and leadership skills.

  • Technical skills must include: strong knowledge of farm accounting principles and farm income taxation; an understanding of entities and complex business arrangements; strong knowledge of farm management concepts, especially in regards to how they relate to farm accounting and income taxation; the ability to analyze farm records and make recommendations to customers
  • Customer Relationship skills must include: the ability to listen, ask questions, build rapport, and develop strong customer relationships; the ability to provide consultative solutions to customers' obstacles and problems
  • Leadership skills must include: the ability to mentor other financial services staff to develop their technical and customer relationship skills outside of their formal Farm Credit East training setting; the ability to identify, learn, and implement "best practices" into the branch and Farm Credit East Financial Services program; the ability to effectively supervise others and accept responsibility for the growth and quality of the branch Financial Services program

Required Education

A Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, agricultural economics, or a related field is required. IRS Enrolled Agent designation required; CPA designation preferred.
