Job Description

The Farm Credit Council is seeking a Communications Specialist to support its national corporate giving program and relationships with key external stakeholders, as well as support Farm Credit’s national communications efforts. This person will report to the Senior Director of Communications.

We are looking for a detail-oriented, initiative-taking individual to help create and strengthen relationships at the national level and communicate with key stakeholders about Farm Credit’s mission to support rural communities and agriculture.

Key requirements include strong written and editorial skills, follow-through and interpersonal and communication skills. A college degree and two to three years’ experience on Capitol Hill or in an administrative, communications or policy role are preferred.

  •  National corporate giving program administration (60%)
    • Maintain accurate financial records and processing of grant payments
    • Solicit, review and score proposals
    • Draft award letters and related correspondence
    • Manage deadlines and implementation of sponsorship benefits
    • Track the progress of sponsored programs
    • Compile and prepare contributions and stakeholder information to report to the Farm Credit Council board of directors
    • Research new strategic corporate giving opportunities
    • Identify opportunities to leverage and communicate about partnerships
    • Coordinate staff and leadership participation in sponsored events across the country and facilitate connections between partner organizations and local Farm Credit associations when appropriate
  • Content development and management (20%)
    • Draft, design, edit and publish internal- and external-facing content, particularly as it relates to strategic partnerships
  • Other administrative support (20%)
    • Prepare and print background materials for a wide range of internal and external meetings and events
    • Provide administrative support to communications staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Two to three years’ experience on Capitol Hill or in an administrative, communications or policy role
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and writing skills
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Sound judgment and unquestionable integrity
  • Recordkeeping and general accounting/financial management skills
  • A background or interest in agriculture, cooperative and rural policy issues
  • Experience in social media, message development, written communications, media relations or graphic design
  • Superior attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines at the same time
  • Experience with sponsorships and/or corporate giving programs is preferred but not required

Farm Credit is a nationwide network of customer-owned financial institutions that provides loans and related financial services to U.S. farmers and ranchers, farmer-owned cooperatives, rural homebuyers, agribusinesses and rural infrastructure providers. The Farm Credit Council is the national trade association representing Farm Credit institutions before Congress, the executive branch and other stakeholders.
