Job Description

The Farm Credit Council is seeking a Communications Specialist to help strengthen our media relations and digital media efforts. This person will report to the Senior Director of Communications and work closely with the Manager of Digital Media.


We are looking for a dynamic, motivated person to help us increase and track our media engagement, create and manage content for a new website launching in January, develop and execute social media posts and coordinate and streamline reports on engagements and impressions.


Successful applicants will have a positive attitude and be willing to take initiative.


Key requirements include strong written and editorial skills, interpersonal and communication skills and experience with social media platforms. Two to three years’ experience in public relations, journalism or communications and a college degree with experience from Capitol Hill, journalism, communications or public relations are preferred.

  • Media engagement (40%)
    • Identify opportunities to engage with reporters
    • Coordinate timely responses to media inquiries
    • Draft and distribute content to reporters
    • Update and maintain media contact lists
    • Monitor and report on trending news related to the industry
    • Compile and distribute daily news clips
  • Digital media (40%)
    • Draft and share posts
    • Track related accounts and identify opportunities for engagement
    • Manage the reporting process and provide updates
  • Content development and management (20%)
    • Design, edit and publish content to the website
    • Write op-eds and other content for member publications
  • Perform other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Two to three years’ of experience in public relations, journalism or communications
  • Excellent verbal, written and editorial skills
  • Experience with social media platforms and management tools
  • Superior attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines at the same time
  • Exposure to or understanding of rural communities and agriculture
  • Political experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field
