From the Field: 2014 NAFB Convention

More than 500 National Association of Broadcasting (NAFB) members, industry partners, students and guests gathered in Kansas City, Mo., for three days of networking with agriculture’s newsmakers during the 71st annual NAFB Convention and Trade Talk.

This was the fourth year that Farm Credit has sponsored the event through the National Contributions Program and the second year that the System has sponsored the NAFB Social Media Corps. Eight agricultural communications students from four universities received hands-on training in digital content development and execution from Farm Credit’s National Communications team during their time at the convention. Corps members created and distributed content across their preferred social media channels including NAFB’s Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, reaching more than 3 million Twitter users with nearly 9 million impressions during the three day period.

In addition to the Social Media Corps, four experts from across the Farm Credit System participated in nearly 80 radio, TV and online interviews in just six and a half hours at Trade Talk, a one-of-a-kind media relations event held every year at the convention. Subject matter experts included Rod Hebrink from AgStar Financial Services, Mike Hechtner from CoBank, Brian O’Keane from AgriBank and Doug Stark from Farm Credit Services of America. The experts addressed questions ranging from regional perspectives on interest rates and land values to those on risk management and the economy.
