From the Field: Cleveland Digs Into Urban Farming

When most people think of Cleveland, Ohio farming isn’t the first thing that comes to mind, but that’s exactly what’s going on there. The city, sometimes called the buckle of the rust belt, is looking to revitalize some of the hardest hit neighborhoods by using vacated lots for agricultural purposes. Many different organizations like Cleveland Crops, Green City Growers, and Rid-All Green Partnership purchased vacant lots that were once magnets for illegal dumping and criminal activity, and turned them into productive land that provides jobs, locally sourced food and a sense of pride in the community.
